Research and development (R&D) comprises creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of knowledge. Any activity classified as R&D is characterised by originality. Investigation is a primary objective.

Research and development survey
This information release, published every two years, measures the level of research and development activity in New Zealand, and employment and expenditure by private sector enterprises, government departments, government-owned trading entities, and universities. Results from previous surveys have been released by MoRST.
