Public sustainable development workshop summary

Statistics New Zealand is developing an approach to measure sustainable development in New Zealand. Based on this approach, a set of indicators will be developed and presented in a publication for release in June 2009. This release will provide a picture of New Zealand’s progress towards sustainable development.

As part of public consultation for this project two public workshops were run, the first in Auckland on 29 August 2008, and the second in Wellington on 9 September 2008. The workshops were run with Anew New Zealand http://www.anewnz.org.nz/, a volunteer organisation.

The document below summarises the Statistics New Zealand session of these workshops. The summary covers the discussion in the workshops on the proposed approach to measure sustainable development and what topics should be included in that measurement.
