In November 2011 compared with November 2010:
- International guest nights fell 3.3 percent, caused mainly by a large fall in Canterbury.
- Domestic guest nights were unchanged.
- Total guest nights fell 1.5 percent.
- North Island guest nights rose 1.7 percent, while South Island guest nights fell 5.9 percent.
- Otago and Wellington guest nights rose, but only partly offset falls in the Canterbury and Auckland regions.
- Guest nights fell in hotels and backpacker accommodation, while they rose in motels and holiday parks.
